What is magical realism? How does it intersect with sci fi, fantasy, or literary fiction? Most importantly, how the heck do you write it? Is it simply a matter of bringing fables, folk tales, and mythology into contemporary, real-world settings, or is there more to it? In this standalone class, we’ll explore the facets of magical realism through a variety of prompts, handouts and writing assignments, as well as a short lecture.
Keith Rosson is the award-winning author of the novels The Mercy of the Tide (2017), Smoke City (2018), and Road Seven (2020), and the story collection Folk Songs for Trauma Surgeons (2021.)
