Q & A with author Mary E. Pearson and Susan J. Farese of SJF Communications
SJF: In a nutshell, tell us about your book or written piece.
MEP: Dance of Thieves is the first book of a duology set six years later in the New York Times Bestselling Remnant Chronicles universe. In this new spinoff, we meet Jase Ballenger, the young outlaw leader of a powerful dynasty, as he crosses paths with Kazi of Brightmist, a former thief secretly sent by the queen of Venda to infiltrate the Ballenger fortress. Unforeseen events spiral out of their control, throwing them intimately together, and a cat-and-mouse game ensues as they hide dark secrets and lock wits in a battle that may cost them their lives — and their hearts.
SJF: What has your experience been as a writer in San Diego?
MEP: I have been a full-time writer in San Diego for almost twenty years now, and am grateful for all the local support of fans and booksellers.
SJF: How has storytelling influenced your life?
MEP: Storytelling has helped me navigate and understand my world, as it has done throughout history for, well, everyone. Without stories, humanity would have been eaten by saber-toothed tigers long ago.
SJF: What advice would you give to a new writer in San Diego?
MEP: Go to conferences like this! Take notes. (Learn from our mistakes! And from our triumphs.) Meet other writers and develop your own support group. You will need it. Writing for publication — and staying in the game — is a long journey and not for the faint-hearted. Persistence is key.
SJF: Many thanks, Mary!
